My Fellow Educators…

I am not politically correct. I don’t pretend to be. I am,however, an educated adult and can engage in conversation about opposing opinions without resorting to name calling and violence. That disclaimer being said, I am truly afraid that the dumbing down of America is on the fast track. I have watched the news daily and with growing horror at the level of ignorance and incompetence that seem to be permeating throughout this great country. For the record, I am not going to lose any sleep if there are those that do not agree with me.

To my professional brethren in the teaching community: You should be ashamed of yourselves for the nonsense you are teaching your students. This is especially true of those of you that teach Civics and Economics. I am watching young people walk out of classrooms to support ideas that fly in the face of the constitution. They do not understand the importance of the constitution and the rights it protects. This generation is the first generation that will protest to have rights taken away. It makes no sense. They are holding up signs saying that socialism is the way to run a country. I can’t blame it all on them. I put the majority of the blame on their so called teachers who are filling their heads with idiotic notions. I taught Civics. And I taught mine about the Constitution, I made them read the Constitution and I made them realize the importance of this document . We discussed rights and duties as a citizen, understanding that we are the government and we need to hold our leaders accountable. And yes, they learned about the different types of government, including socialism, and what were positives and negatives about each type. For some reason, students are being taught that you can get everything for free, that success is meant to be mocked, and that people who work hard and become wealthy are supposed to have their money taken away and given to those who don’t do anything. They are being taught that this is acceptable.  I have my students write down and remember 2 statements: “There is no such thing as a free lunch” and ” A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything that you have”. Those 2 statements are apropos considering that socialism takes from those who would produce and work hard and gives to those that don’t. It kills initiative and innovation because once people realize that no matter how hard you work, everyone will get the same, the drive to produce goes away. Students understand this when you break it down to them using grades or their first paycheck. It does not take them long to realize that socialism does not promote excellence only substandard performance . I think actors and athletes that support candidates who support socialism would not be too happy if they were all paid the same. The worst actor or athlete would make the same as the hall of famer or the Oscar winner. Their attitudes might change. But maybe not. These 2 groups tend to think they are better than the rest of us.

SO I SAY THIS TO MY FELLOW TEACHING BRETHREN…YOUR JOB IS TO TEACH YOUR STUDENTS HOW TO THINK THINK, NOT WHAT TO THINK. YOU SHOULD BE GIVING THEM THE KNOWLEDGE THEY NEED TO HELP MAKE THIS COUNTRY GREAT. YOU SHOULD NOT BE PUSHING YOUR POLITICAL AGENDA ON THEM. YOUR POLITICS AND OPINIONS ARE YOUR OWN. I ENCOURAGED MY STUDENTS TO ASK QUESTIONS, TO NOT ACCEPT SOMETHING BECAUSE I SAID IT WAS SO. AND WHOMEVER THEY VOTED FOR, THEY NEEDED MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS N INFORMED VOTE. VOTE FOR WHO YOU WANT, JUST MAKE SURE THEY BELIEVE AT LEAST MOST OF WHAT YOU BELIEVE.

Students are walking out of classrooms, resorting to violence, and tearing up the constitution. What are they being taught? That stripping away rights solves the problem? Democracy doesn’t work? They have no clue. And for the mainstream media to interview them as if they have all the answers is a travesty. What is going on in schools and what is going on with teachers? Stop trying to advance your social and political agenda and teach your students.

I am worried about the future and this generation that does not have any substance to their beliefs. They prattle what they hear on tv, see on social media, or hear from parents that sometimes are just as uninformed as they are. I had a conversation with a woman who owned a business who thought socialism was a good thing. She did not understand what it was. She understood when our conversation was through and I don’t think she liked the idea that the government could take her business. It is scary to see the Constitution being burned, the writers of the Declaration of Independence being labeled racist, the outright attack on Christianity and marriage, and the constant hate directed at our President. We are in trouble from factions within our own country that seek to destroy this republic. It is time to keep up the good fight, to not be quiet, and to not be afraid of being politically incorrect. I do not shy away from the fact that the last president did nothing for this country because he had only contempt for this country. He had the chance and chose to work against America and its citizens. And nobody wants to say that. But it is true. He penalized business, enacted policies that put people out of work, pushed government bailouts which artificially tampered with the business cycle, he used executive orders to push his agenda and penalized Americans who did not want to buy health insurance. He weaponized the FBI, DOJ, and IRS to go after political opponents and to try and and help Hilary get elected. He undermined the Constitution. And he allowed Americans to die in Benghazi due to his inaction. And now we are in a mess. The current President may not be prefect but he loves this country and wants to make it a great for its citizens. That’s his job. US interests first, because I promise you, all the other countries in the world are protecting their own.

I voted for Donald Trump and I will vote for him again. I am a proud deplorable. I wanted change from career politicians and frankly I could appreciate a man who said what he thought. I had my reasons for voting the way I did. I had friends that voted for Hillary. They had their reasons. And guess what, we can agree to disagree and still be friends.

This country is seeing the economy grow, people are going back to work, small business is thriving, unemployment ( for black and white) is down. The country is retaking it’s place as a power on the world front. All this is good and how it is supposed to be. Stop whining. And to the left, stop saying you want the economy to fail so Trump will fail. That is the most ignorant statement I have ever heard. It shows too how out of touch they really are with normal people who are struggling to make ends meet. And for those that would back candidates that would agree with this, maybe it is time you wake up and realize that the left wants this country to fail.

Stop complaning and appreciate how lucky you are to live in a great nation that allows you to become anything you can dream.  Appreciate the sacrifices that have been made to forge this nation. And Educators, teach your students to think for themselves and not to think what you think. You are failing at your chosen profession if you turn out mindless robots instead of students ready to take their place as a contributing member of society.

I will continue to push my students to think for themselves and to always ask questions. I challenge you all to do the same.
